Why This Role Is Right for You As a Backend Integration Engineer, you’ll join a collaborative and forward-thinking team based in Milan, Rome or fully remote across Europe. Together, we’re building Nexi’s next-generation ISV Partner Platform, enabling Independent Software Vendors to seamlessly integrate, onboard, and manage merchants in record time. Your work will be instrumental in connecting the platform with internal Nexi systems and external partner services, creating a unified, scalable, and developer-friendly ecosystem. About Your Future Role

In this position, you will:

• Design and implement robust, secure, and well-documented APIs to connect ISVs and internal systems.
• Build integration layers that abstract the complexity of underlying systems (e.g. acquiring platforms, KYC services, CRM).
• Collaborate closely with backend and frontend teams to ensure consistent data flows and aligned contract models.
• Develop webhooks, callback systems, and notification mechanisms for real-time event communication with partners.
• Ensure that public APIs are versioned, documented, and aligned with partner expectations (with the Service Manager).
• Create tools, scripts, and adapters to support the onboarding process and backend integrations.
• Ensure scalability, performance, and resilience of the integration components across different environments.

What Makes You a Great Fit We’re looking for someone eager to make a difference. Here’s what we value: Essential Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in backend or integration development.
• Strong knowledge of API design (REST, GraphQL) and API security standards (OAuth2, JWT, etc.).
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (e.g. Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, .NET).
• Familiarity with microservices and integration patterns (gateway, orchestration, event-driven design).
• Hands-on experience working with CI/CD pipelines, containers (Docker), and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).

Bonus Skills:

• Experience integrating with third-party platforms such as KYC, PSPs, or identity services.
• Understanding of event brokers or messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Experience writing API documentation or developer SDKs.
• Knowledge of OpenAPI / Swagger specs and tooling.
• Familiarity with fintech, banking or merchant onboarding processes.
