Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Description

Clemson University seeks applications for a tenure-track position in Applied Environmental Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the Assistant Professor level. This will be a 9-month, 100% Research position in residence at the Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science (BICEFS) in Georgetown, SC. We seek candidates who will contribute to a collegial, interdisciplinary community with a strong tradition of both fundamental and applied research and our commitment to inclusive and supportive environment. The successful candidate will create and maintain a robust and innovative research agenda focused on the implementation of remote sensing and applied GIS technology to address pressing ecological and environmental issues. Expertise and application of these technologies, including emerging artificial intelligence/machine learning techniques, to address research questions related to invasive species, urban forestry, soil science, or coastal processes are particularly desired. The incumbent should demonstrate their ability to work across scales, ranging from local to global. The incumbent will be expected to make broad scholarly contributions to one or more of BICEFS research pillars: 1) Living Coasts, 2) Watersheds, Wetlands, and Wildlife, and 3) Tomorrow’s Forests and provide leadership in developing collaborative environmental projects. Research should be targeted towards providing clear, tangible benefits to management, conservation, and policy. A central part of the successful candidate’s portfolio will focus on issues that impact South Carolina and the Southeastern U.S. (e.g., climate change, land use change, natural resource management).

Qualifications

Qualifications The successful candidate will be expected to initiate, build, and sustain an externally funded, internationally recognized research program, publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and complement existing faculty expertise on the main campus and at BICEFS. The incumbent’s home department and tenure-initiating unit will be the Department of Forestry and Environmental Conservation. Candidates must have a doctoral degree, or equivalent, in Natural Resource Management, Geography, Ecology, Environmental Science, Forestry, Soil Science, or related fields and a research focus on the applied use of spatial technologies and remote sensing to investigate environmental issues. Ideal candidates will have postdoctoral experience and demonstrate interest in outreach to integrate their research with community needs.
