Senior Product Designer (Design Systems)

Role Overview:

As a Senior Design System Designer at McAfee, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and usability across all McAfee products. You’ll work closely with designers, developers, and product managers to create and maintain a cohesive system of components, patterns, and guidelines that empower teams to deliver exceptional user experiences. You will act as both a contributor and advocate for the design system, ensuring it evolves to meet the needs of our growing product ecosystem. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on McAfee’s brand and user experience. This is a remote position for Canada only.

About the role: 

• Design System Development: Create, maintain, and document reusable components, patterns, and guidelines that ensure consistency and scalability across products. 

• Experience with design tokens and multi-brand theming. Ability to work with tools like Style Dictionary, Figma Tokens, or MUI’s theming system.

• Collaboration: Partner with product designers, developers, engineering team and product managers to align the design system with business and user needs, ensuring seamless integration into product workflows across native mobile and web platforms. 

• Component Design: Design and refine high-quality UI components that adhere to accessibility standards (including dark mode compatibility), responsive design principles, and McAfee’s brand guidelines. 

• Understanding of motion and UI interaction within a mobile environment would be considered an asset.

• Advocacy: Champion the use of the design system across teams, promoting adoption, educating stakeholders, and gathering feedback to inform improvements, best practices and future proofing the system as a whole. 

• Tooling & Prototyping: Develop and maintain tools, libraries, and prototypes that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the design system.

• Accessibility Standards: Ensure all design system components meet or exceed accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), creating inclusive experiences for all users. 

• Continuous Improvement: Regularly evaluate and iterate on the design system based on user feedback, product requirements, and industry best practices.

• Documentation: Produce clear, detailed documentation and guidelines to ensure consistent usage and easy adoption of the design system across teams.

• Governance: Managing updates, deprecations, and ensuring backward compatibility; defining how components get added or updated—open contribution vs centralized control.

• Metrics and impact: Define and track usage across teams, component coverage, time saved, etc. Report on how the system improves consistency, accessibility, and velocity.

About You: 

• 7+ years of experience in product design, with a focus on design systems or UI/UX design across native mobile and web react platforms

• 3+ years of experience in product design with native mobile platforms

• Proven experience contributing to or maintaining a design system in a cross-functional environment. 

• Strong expertise in design tools such as Figma (preferred), Sketch, or Adobe XD, with a focus on component libraries and prototyping. 

• Solid understanding of front-end development principles, including HTML, CSS, and responsive design. (react native or other languages are a plus

• Excellent visual and interaction design skills, with a keen eye for detail and consistency. 

• Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and inclusive design practices. 

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and advocate for design system adoption.

• Experience documenting and presenting design system guidelines to technical and non-technical audiences.
