Senior Accountant - Bicycle Retail (REMOTE in Florida)
Summary
The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Trek Bicycle Stores of Florida accounting team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial reporting across all store locations and related entities. This role supports the Accounting Manager in month-end close, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and cash-flow accuracy. The Senior Accountant also plays a vital role in analyzing financial data, resolving variances, and ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards. This position requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional who can thrive in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, internal controls, and process improvement. Key Responsibilities
General Ledger Month-End Close Prepare and post monthly journal entries including accruals, prepaids, amortization, and deferred revenue. Maintain accuracy of general ledger accounts and ensure proper classification of transactions. Perform monthly reconciliations for cash, credit cards, prepaid, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts. Review and reconcile inventory, COGS, and intercompany transactions to ensure completeness and consistency. Assist with monthly financial statement preparation and variance analysis. Cash Flow Banking Reconcile all bank accounts and credit card activity; investigate and resolve discrepancies. Review daily banking activity to ensure accounts are properly funded. Support weekly cashflow tracking and projections. Assist in merchant dispute resolution and monitor deposit timing across store locations. Accounts Payable Vendor Management Oversee vendor invoice coding, timing, and posting accuracy. Review AP reconciliations and resolve vendor discrepancies. Support preparation of rent, utilities, and recurring vendor payments. Review and book benefit invoices and annual CAM reconciliations. Revenue Accounts Receivable Perform monthly sales reconciliations and COGS tie-outs for all store locations. Work with store managers to resolve sales discrepancies and ensure proper revenue recognition. Monitor deferred revenue schedules and ensure timely revenue recognition. Compliance Tax Prepare and file monthly sales and use tax returns for all Florida locations. Maintain accurate records for business tax licenses, fictitious name registrations, and related filings. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements. Reporting Analysis Assist with preparation of monthly financial reporting packages for management review. Analyze trends in expenses, revenue, and cash flow, identifying opportunities for efficiency. Support the Accounting Manager in budget-to-actual comparisons and financial modeling. Process Improvement Collaboration Partner with operations and store managers to ensure accurate financial reporting. Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff and clerks as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in multi-entity or retail operations. Strong knowledge of GAAP and month-end close procedures. Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (Advanced), Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting tools. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Nice To Haves Preferred Attributes Experience with multi-location accounting, inventory reconciliation, and sales tax filings. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments. High sense of ownership and accountability for accuracy and timeliness. Interest in process automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
