Experienced Financial Counselor (Customer Services) - Remote

In this critical role, you will play a vital part in ensuring that patients receive timely and accurate financial information, while also maximizing collections and resolving billing errors. As a key member of our Patient Financial Services team, you will interact with patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel, and medical staff to identify the most effective payment sources and provide timely referrals for government programs, including Medicaid and Charity Care.

Key Responsibilities

As an Experienced Financial Counselor (Customer Services) - Remote, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that patients receive timely and accurate financial information, including insurance eligibility and benefits
  • Creating estimates and upfront cash collections as needed
  • Identifying the most effective payment sources, including patient payment and/or referrals for government programs
  • Interacting with patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel, and medical staff to resolve billing errors and maximize collections
  • Daily tasks include inpatient and observation patient accounts review, authorization and benefit determination, creating estimates and collecting point of service cash when appropriate
  • Providing timely and appropriate referrals for various state medical assistance programs

Essential Functions

* Take actions that will support maximization of collection of balances due or account resolution from all sources

  • Facilitate account resolution by accurately identifying, following up on, or correcting billing errors, lower than expected reimbursement, or denials for correction for submission or resubmission to patients and/or insurance carriers
  • Timely identify, research, and resolution any issues that may cause delays in payment or account resolution
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve collections and follow-up activities
  • Work collaboratively across teams, with peers, and revenue cycle departments

Job Requirements

* High School Diploma or GED equivalent required within one (1) year of hire

  • Candidates who do not possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent will be provided the opportunity to enroll in a GED/HSEA program at time of hire as a condition of employment
  • 4 years similar hospital billing or accounting experience
  • Knowledge of Charity Care, Uncompensated Care, and Medicaid guidelines and regulations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification preferred
  • Candidate must be detail-oriented
  • Computer experience required
  • A minimum of three years insurance authorization/pre-certification experience required
  • Knowledge of insurance, insurance verification, and TOS collections
  • Prior experience in hospital admissions preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Preferred Qualifications

* Preferred experience includes insurance verification, cash collections, and obtaining Notices of Admission (NOA), with knowledge of insurance plans

Scheduling Requirements

* Full-time

  • Occasional travel as needed to Monmouth Medical Center/Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus/Community Medical Center/Hamilton
  • Remote, Monday through Friday 1p-9p
  • Rotating every other weekend (1pm-9pm Saturday and Sunday) and rotating holidays required
