Global Financial Institutions Group, Associate

SMBC Group is a top-tier global financial group seeking an Associate to join the Specialty Finance Client Coverage team. The role involves supporting a team that advises Specialty Finance companies on financing solutions and capital optimization, while also acting as a lender and cross-selling Corporate & Investment Banking products.

Responsibilities

• Strong team orientation with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with team members in multiple product groups and regions
• Experience working in FIG banking and in particular, the Business Development Company (BDC) sector
• The candidate will assume a central role within a multifunctional team that is responsible for a wide variety of projects, some of which include:
• Coordinating and facilitating group idea generation and solutions across products and regions
• Preparing pitch books and other client marketing materials and assisting with preparation for client meetings
• Assisting in the development and continued cultivation of client relationships
• Maintaining internal databases to track comps, deal flow, capital markets activity and wallet share

Skills

• Bachelors degree or MBA in Finance or Economics, with a minimum of 1-3 years corporate finance and/or capital markets experience
• Candidate must have experience in the Specialty Finance (BDC) sector
• Transaction experience, particularly working in banking or capital markets
• Ability to synthesize large amounts of information and contribute to idea generation
• Strong project management skills, including experience leading a team of analysts and adhering to tight timelines
• Exemplary written and oral communication skills with an ability to convey ideas
• Ability to work independently, while also working effectively in a team environment
• Advanced proficiency with Bloomberg and Microsoft Office
