Vice President Human Resources - GS1 Global Office

About the position The Vice President of Human Resources at GS1 Global Office oversees all core HR functions for a small, high-impact global team and contributes to the strategy and delivery of operational plans as a member of the leadership team. This role requires a strategic mindset and hands-on HR delivery ensuring operational excellence, fostering an inclusive culture, and providing expert guidance to support Global Office. The VP HR also serves as an HR facilitator and advisor to the broader GS1 community across 120 member countries in support of the federation’s mission and people.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to strategic planning and organisational effectiveness as a member of the leadership team, aligning HR and culture initiatives with GS1’s mission, business objectives, and federation-wide priorities. Actively represent HR in governance meetings including the Management Board, Advisory Council, General Assembly and Compensation Committee.
  • Lead and continuously improve core HR functions for the Global Office team of employees and consultants (100+ team members in 17 countries) located in Europe, the US, and APAC. Functions include organisational development, resource planning, talent acquisition, contracting, onboarding, performance management, succession planning, compensation & benefits, HRIS, internal communications and compliance with global employment law and policies.
  • Embed an inclusive and collaborative culture by implementing concrete engagement initiatives, coaching programs, leadership development frameworks, and talent and succession planning processes.
  • Ensure HR processes of all team members are run with operational rigor, maintaining accurate systems and records, upholding equal opportunity standards, compliance with employment law, and mitigating risk across a globally distributed workforce.
  • Act as an HR business partner, consultant and advisor to the Global Office team as well as broader GS1 Community, providing practical guidance on workforce planning, employee relations, compensation and benefit policies, and organisational development.
  • Facilitate a global human resources community with member organisations and provide leadership for transversal HR initiatives. Share expertise with the wider GS1 community by advising on HR policies and practices.
  • Lead and coach a small HR and administrative professional team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in human resources, business administration or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive global HR experience including HR leadership roles in global (including Europe), multi-cultural organisations.
  • Experience managing global core HR functions: talent acquisition, contracting, onboarding, performance management, succession planning, compensation & benefits, and compliance in multiple countries.
  • Proven track record working with globally distributed teams and executive leadership at the board level.
  • Experience with change management practices that help leaders and teams navigate transformation effectively.
  • Strong commitment to people.
  • Fluency in English, oral and written. Fluency in other languages is helpful.
  • Enjoys covering a broad HR spectrum: from strategic to hands-on, operational with relevant experience.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Effective relationship builder – one-to-one, one-to-many, internally and externally, with small and large organisations.
  • Ability to create strong and trusted relationships with a globally distributed team in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrates passion, energy, and drive in their work.
  • Operates with honesty; keeps promises and honours commitments; behaves consistently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility to accommodate commitments across multiple time zones.

  • Advanced HR certifications (such as GPHR, SHRM-SCP, CIPD, or equivalent) are highly valued.
  • Good sense of humour.
