Montessori Primary Lead - 3 to 6

Start: Fall School Year of 2026-2027 Schedule: 8AM to 4:30PM (including 1 hour work from home - end of day) Salary: 45000 to 55000 (based on a 10 month contract and depending on experience) Program: Early Childhood Program (ages 3 to 6) Montessori Head Teachers lead Montessori classrooms for one of the following age groups: Toddlers (18 months to 3 years); Primary (3 to 6 years); or Lower Elementary (6 to 9 years). They report directly to the Program Directors at the campus. This position exercises discretion and independent judgment to lead classes, prepare the Montessori classroom environment, create materials and activities, manage one or more Assistant Teachers and/or Floaters, handle complex parent and student issues, participate in campus events and community building, etc. Lead the Montessori Classroom

  • Design the Montessori classroom environment, creating materials and designing activities as necessary for the success of the classroom and children.
  • Give sequential Montessori presentations, according to the individual needs and progress of each child and in accordance with the AMS Montessori training.
  • Track individual child progress using Transparent Classroom for observation notes, recording lessons, and creating individualized lesson plans.
  • Create, manage and maintain a safe (emotionally and physically) joyful, positive atmosphere for the children
  • Carefully observe individual children to gain insight into their needs, and problem solve their challenges in order to meet those needs
  • Be a positive leader for one or more Associate, Assistant Teachers and/or Floaters and/or Interns who will support the classroom

Parent Communication & Parent Education

  • Communicate proactively with parents on an informal basis, including emails and verbal conversations
  • Write progress reports twice per year (only end of year for Toddlers
  • Conduct parent / teacher conferences twice per year
  • Hold one-on-one meetings with parents as necessary to meet the needs of individual children
  • Write regular class newsletters
  • Participate in Parent Education Events to educate parents and families about the Montessori Method and the workings of the classroom
  • Participate as needed in outreach and community building events such as open houses and holiday celebrations

Professional Development

  • Participate in periodic professional development opportunities
  • Maintain good standing with AMS and STARS Professional Development
  • Participate in observations with other teachers and staff (both as the observer and as the observed)

Academic Administration

  • Engage in various administrative activities that support the school's academic programs (e.g. planning for events, participating in staff meetings or one-on-one Head of School meetings, etc.)

Requirements

  • A Montessori Teaching Credential from an AMS or AMI-recognized training center at the Primary level.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Ability to relate to and inspire students on their independent educational journey
  • Experience leading a Primary classroom and establishing a normalized environment based on kindness and respect. Support and mentoring provided by our Primary Educational Director as needed.
  • Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.
  • Strong personal communication and written communication skills.
  • Technical skills that support recordkeeping (Google Classroom, Transparent Classroom) and parent communication.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States, and at least 18 years of age.
  • Willingness to complete state requirements: Infant/Child First Aid & CPR Training, MMR immunization, TB Test, Background Check & Fingerprinting, Food Handler’s Permit.
