Lead Health Educator – Outreach & Engagement Position Overview The Lead Health Educator – Outreach & Engagement is a key leadership role within the LeadSafe MN Program, responsible for advancing community-based lead poisoning prevention efforts across Minnesota. This position focuses on education, outreach, and direct service delivery to families most at risk of lead exposure—particularly children under six, pregnant individuals, refugees, and immigrant communities. Reporting to the LeadSafe MN Program Director, this role requires a highly organized, community driven professional who is passionate about public health, skilled in outreach, and comfortable working in diverse, multicultural environments. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, entrepreneurship mindset, relationship-builder, and program implementer who thrives in both fieldwork and community engagement settings.

Key Responsibilities

Program Implementation & Leadership

  • Implement LeadSafe MN programming in alignment with ESNDC’s mission, work plan, and public health goals
  • Collaborate with internal staff, consultants, and community partners to deliver high impact services
  • Support ongoing program development, outreach strategy, and community engagement initiatives Community Outreach & Education
  • Design, coordinate, and deliver culturally responsive lead education presentations for community organizations, schools, WIC programs, and partner agencies
  • Conduct outreach to increase awareness and participation in LeadSafe MN services
  • Represent ESNDC at community events, tabling opportunities, and public forums
  • Expand and maintain a strong network of community partners to reach priority populations In-Home Visits & Lead Risk Assessments
  • Schedule and conduct in-home visits with families to assess potential lead hazards
  • Provide education on lead exposure risks, prevention strategies, and healthy home practices
  • Complete intake documentation and assist families with program applications (SWAB stabilization and window replacement programs)
  • Identify visible lead risks in homes, including painted surfaces, windows, and high-contact areas Screening & Testing Coordination
  • Plan and execute community lead screening events targeting high-risk populations
  • Coordinate blood lead level (BLL) testing, including consent forms, lab requisitions, and follow-up communication
  • Ensure timely submission of samples and accurate communication of results to families Care Coordination & Referrals
  • Connect families to lead hazard control resources, including:
  • SWAB (lead stabilization) services
  • Window Replacement Programs
  • County and state environmental health services
  • Coordinate scheduling with contractors and partner agencies
  • Provide ongoing follow-up to ensure families successfully access services Data, Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all outreaches, assessments, screenings, and referrals
  • Complete required documentation including intake forms, consent forms, and follow-up reports
  • Support reporting requirements for grants, reimbursements, and program evaluation

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Standard schedule: Monday–Friday; flexibility required for evenings and weekends based on community events and outreach needs
  • Combination of fieldwork (community + in-home visits) and administrative responsibilities Qualifications
  • Minimum education: Associates Degree
  • Experience in community outreach, public health, social services, or related field
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural and multilingual communities
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and documentation
  • Proficiency in basic computer systems and data tracking tools
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year experience in lead poisoning prevention, environmental health, or housing-related services
  • Knowledge of local community resources and public health systems
  • Multilingual abilities, Spanish, Hmong, Karen and/or Somali (strongly preferred for community engagement)

Compensation & Structure

  • Pay range: $25+/hour
  • Position is contractor 1099; one year contract
  • Typical workload: approximately 25–35 hours per week
