Position Overview – Senior Financial Accountant (Europe)

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail‑oriented Senior Financial Accountant to join our Europe Finance & Tax team on a part‑time, remote basis. In this role, you will partner with the Lead Marketing and Operations teams to ensure that all financial reporting, billing, and compliance activities adhere to US GAAP and European regulatory standards. You will be a key member of a dedicated billing group, responsible for delivering precise month‑end close, financial analysis, and process enhancements that support arenaflex’s data‑driven culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • End‑to‑end billing and revenue recognition: Manage the full billing cycle for European operations, ensuring accurate invoicing, timely revenue recognition, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Month‑end and quarter‑end close: Lead the preparation of monthly financial statements, journal entries, and reconciliations, delivering high‑quality results within tight deadlines.
  • Regulatory compliance: Apply US GAAP, IFRS, and local European tax rules (including SOX 404) to guarantee that all financial reporting meets statutory requirements.
  • Financial analysis & reporting: Produce variance analyses, KPI dashboards, and ad‑hoc reports that provide actionable insights to senior leadership and cross‑functional partners.
  • Process improvement: Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and efficiency gains across the billing and reporting processes, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaboration with global teams: Work closely with finance colleagues in North America, APAC, and other European locations to align accounting practices and share best practices.
  • Audit support: Prepare documentation and respond to internal and external audit inquiries, ensuring a smooth audit experience.
  • Mentorship & knowledge sharing: Coach junior accountants, fostering a culture of learning and professional development within the finance organization.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certification is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior accountant or senior accountant‑4 role within a multinational organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in US GAAP, IFRS, and European tax regulations, including hands‑on experience with SOX 404 compliance.
  • Proven track record of managing complex billing cycles and month‑end close processes in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle NetSuite) and strong Excel/Google Sheets skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data visualization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional European language proficiency is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and cultures.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Experience

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with e‑commerce or retail finance operations, particularly in a remote or distributed work setting.
  • Familiarity with data‑analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker for building financial dashboards.
  • Exposure to process‑automation technologies (e.g., Alteryx, UiPath) and a passion for leveraging technology to streamline accounting workflows.
  • Previous involvement in cross‑border tax projects, transfer pricing, or VAT compliance for multiple European jurisdictions.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical mindset: Ability to dissect large data sets, identify trends, and translate findings into clear business recommendations.
  • Detail orientation: Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every journal entry, invoice, and report is error‑free.
  • Problem‑solving: Proactive approach to identifying root causes of discrepancies and implementing effective solutions.
  • Communication: Clear, concise, and persuasive communication style, both written and verbal, tailored to finance and non‑finance audiences.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating a rapidly changing environment, embracing new tools, processes, and regulatory updates.
  • Team player: Collaborative spirit that values diverse perspectives and contributes to a supportive, inclusive team culture.

At arenaflex, we invest heavily in the professional development of our employees. As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will have access to:

  • Potential pathways to senior finance management roles, such as Finance Manager, Controller, or Director of Finance for Europe.
  • Cross‑functional exposure through collaboration with Marketing, Operations, and Product teams, broadening your business acumen.
