We are now seeking a talented and driven Senior Data Engineering Specialist to join our Information Analytics team in Dallas. This is an opportunity to architect the data solutions that will inform strategic decisions across the entire organization, working with cutting-edge cloud technologies and modern data engineering practices.

The Opportunity

The Senior Data Engineering Specialist plays a critical role in designing, building, and operationalizing the data pipelines that power business intelligence, advanced analytics, and downstream data services at arenaflex. This position is hands-on and impact-driven: you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of data flows, from ingestion through transformation to delivery, ensuring that the right data reaches the right people at the right time.

Working at the intersection of data engineering, cloud architecture, and business strategy, you will collaborate closely with product owners, engineering teams, and data platform groups to create automated, reliable, and scalable data pipelines that serve as the single source of truth for the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Architecture & Operationalization: Design, develop, and operationalize end-to-end data pipelines that make data available and accessible for consumption across BI, advanced analytics, and downstream services throughout the enterprise.
  • Collaborative Design: Partner with data modelers, data architects, and BI engineers to design robust data pipelines and recommend continuous improvements to data storage, ingestion, quality, and provisioning strategies.
  • ETL/ELT Development: Plan, develop, and implement complex ETL and ELT processes using Informatica Cloud (IICS), ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Cloud Data Engineering: Leverage Microsoft Azure services including Azure SQL Data Warehouse (Synapse), Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Event Hub, and Azure Data Factory to accelerate and enhance the delivery of data products and services.
  • Big Data & NoSQL Solutions: Design and implement large-scale data processing platforms and NoSQL solutions that generate high-value insights for the organization.
  • Process Optimization: Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, including automation of manual workflows and optimization of data delivery mechanisms.
  • Data Quality & Reliability: Proactively identify opportunities to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality across the data management lifecycle.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Translate and communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences through clear written documentation and verbal presentations.
  • Peer Review & Mentorship: Conduct thorough peer reviews of work produced by fellow data engineers, providing constructive feedback that elevates team output.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years of experience designing and operationalizing data pipelines involving large and complex datasets.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Informatica PowerCenter.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Informatica IICS (Cloud).
  • 2+ years of experience working with cloud technologies such as ADLS, Azure Databricks, Spark, Azure Synapse, Cosmos DB, and other big data platforms.
  • 2+ years of experience in Data Modeling, ETL, and Data Warehousing concepts and practices.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience implementing data integration techniques, including event-based or message-based integration (Kafka, Azure Event Hub) and traditional ETL.
  • Solid understanding of database storage concepts, including Data Lakes, Relational Databases, NoSQL stores, Graph databases, and Data Warehousing.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile development environment and adapt quickly to evolving priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will distinguish strong candidates:

  • Microsoft Azure certifications or equivalent cloud credentials.
  • Experience delivering data solutions through agile software development methodologies.
  • Exposure to the retail industry and its unique data challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a track record of stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working with SAP integration tools, including SAP BODS (BusinessObjects Data Services).
  • Experience with UC4 Job Scheduler or similar workflow orchestration tools.

Skills & Competencies for Success

Beyond technical expertise, the ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Analytical Thinking: The ability to break down complex data problems and design elegant, scalable solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to data quality, validation, and documentation.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Initiative: A self-directed mindset that identifies opportunities and drives improvements without waiting for direction.
  • Adaptability: Comfort working in a dynamic environment where priorities can shift and new challenges emerge regularly.
  • Continuous Learning: A passion for staying current with emerging technologies and industry best practices in data engineering.
