About the Role: What You’ll Do as a Pharmacy Benefits Customer Care Specialist

As a Remote Healthcare Customer Service Representative at arenaflex, you will handle incoming calls from members seeking information about their prescription drug benefits. Each interaction is an opportunity to educate, empower, and advocate for the member. Your core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Responding to Member Inquiries: Answer questions related to prescription copays, medication coverage, formulary details, and pharmacy claim processing. Provide clear, accurate explanations of benefits in a manner that is easy to understand.
  • Educating Members on Benefit Utilization: Guide members on how to maximize their pharmacy benefits, including clinical programs designed to improve health outcomes and reduce out-of-pocket costs. Help them understand appeal rights, prior authorization requirements, and exception processes.
  • Pharmacy Claim Troubleshooting: Review and resolve real-time pharmacy claim issues by verifying submitted information, comparing claim results against benefit rules, and entering appropriate overrides to ensure claims are processed correctly.
  • Document and Form Management: Send necessary documents to providers electronically, including prior authorization forms and prescription benefit documentation.
  • Proactive Outbound Follow-Up: Place outbound calls as needed to provide superior service, resolve open issues, and prevent unnecessary repeat calls — always striving to delight customers and reduce their effort.
  • HIPAA Compliance and Confidentiality: Safeguard all personal health information (PHI) and strictly adhere to HIPAA regulations and confidentiality requirements at all times.

  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively with internal teams, including Prior Authorization, Manual Claims, and other Customer Care team members, to ensure seamless member support.
  • Schedule Adherence and Flexibility: Maintain scheduled hours consistently and demonstrate flexibility to assist with coverage during peak times or team needs.
  • Mission Alignment: Support arenaflex’s client mission statement by representing the company professionally and courteously in every interaction.

Important Clarifications About This Role

It is important to understand that in this position, you will not be negotiating drug costs with pharmacies, working as a pharmacist, or acting as an insurance company representative. arenaflex is not a pharmacy or an insurance provider. Instead, you will serve as an informed resource who answers questions based on the member’s pharmacy coverage and benefit structure. Your role is to inform, guide, and support — never to sell, negotiate, or adjust pricing.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

To excel as a Remote Healthcare Customer Service Representative at arenaflex, candidates should possess the following:

  • Prior Medical Customer Service Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in a medical, healthcare, or pharmacy-related customer service setting is required.
  • Excellent Phone Etiquette: Professional, courteous, and empathetic communication skills on every call.
  • Typing Proficiency: Ability to type at a minimum of 40 words per minute (500 keystrokes per hour) while actively listening and engaging with members.
