Position Overview

arenaflex is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually rigorous Senior Data Scientist to join our growing remote team. In this role, you will be at the helm of designing, developing, and deploying advanced data science solutions that drive business transformation. You will leverage sophisticated machine learning algorithms, predictive analytics, and statistical modeling techniques to extract actionable insights from massive and complex datasets.

Key Responsibilities

• Build Predictive Models and Machine Learning Frameworks: Design, develop, and refine models using advanced machine learning, statistical modeling, probability theory, decision theory, and other quantitative techniques. • Translate Business Challenges into Analytical Solutions: Develop a deep understanding of the business context behind complex datasets and craft meaningful analytic solutions that address real-world problems. Combine domain knowledge with technical expertise to deliver measurable impact.
• Apply Advanced Statistical Techniques: Perform rigorous analysis on large-scale datasets using predictive statistical models, customer profiling, segmentation analysis, survey design, and data mining. Build recommendations and optimization algorithms, conduct complexity analysis, and apply scientific computing methods to solve multifaceted problems.
• Develop Production-Grade Code: Program using a modern tech stack including Python, PySpark, Matplotlib, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and related libraries. Ensure that models are scalable, reproducible, and maintainable within arenaflex's engineering ecosystem.
• Implement Supervised and Unsupervised Algorithms: Deploy machine learning techniques such as decision trees, regression models, XGBoost, K-means clustering, and anomaly detection. Apply interpretable machine learning and Bayesian theory to ensure transparency and trustworthiness of model outputs.
• Leverage Cloud Computing Platforms: Utilize Azure, Databricks, and Snowflake for data storage, processing, and querying. Architect cloud-native solutions that support high-performance analytics at scale.
• Adopt Modern Software Engineering Practices: Employ GitHub for version control, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and agile methodologies to streamline development and deployment workflows.
• Collaborate Across Functions: Partner closely with finance teams, research scientists, software developers, and business leaders to define product requirements, identify analytical opportunities, and deliver solutions that align with strategic goals.
• Communicate Insights with Clarity: Present findings, methodologies, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences, including business clients and executive leadership. Educate stakeholders on data systems, share actionable insights, and influence decision-making at every level of the organization.

Essential Qualifications

• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of four years of experience in data science, machine learning, quantitative analysis, or computational disciplines, OR a High School diploma/GED with a minimum of seven years of relevant experience. A Master's degree in a STEM field—such as computer science, statistics, physics, mathematics, information systems, data science, or machine learning—is strongly preferred.
• Large-Scale Data Experience: At least four years of hands-on experience working with massive, complex datasets to create and optimize machine learning, predictive, forecasting, and/or optimization models.
• Programming Proficiency: Advanced experience in SQL, Python, PySpark, or other relevant programming languages. Demonstrated ability to write clean, efficient, and production-ready code.
• Exploratory Data Analysis Mastery: Advanced capability in exploratory data analysis, feature engineering and selection, pattern detection, distribution analysis, visualization of results, and extracting insights that inform data-driven business decisions.
• Algorithm Expertise: Proven experience using decision trees and building classifiers. Deep familiarity with supervised learning techniques (linear and logistic regression, time series modeling, generalized linear models, decision trees, support vector machines) and unsupervised learning techniques (K-means, hierarchical clustering, association rules, principal component analysis).
• Cloud and Distributed Systems: Hands-on experience with cloud-based machine learning platforms, distributed computing frameworks, data pipelines, cloud data stores, and serving engines.
• Experimental Design: Demonstrated experience designing and analyzing A/B experiments to evaluate product features, marketing campaigns, and business strategies.
• Communication Skills: Advanced ability to convey rigorous technical concepts and issues to non-technical stakeholders in a clear, compelling, and accessible manner.
• Adaptability and Ambiguity: Experience thriving in dynamic environments, navigating ambiguity, prioritizing competing needs, and consistently delivering results under tight deadlines.
• Cross-Functional Influence: Proven success communicating technical solutions and advocating for data-driven approaches to data scientists, engineering teams, and business audiences alike.
• Business Acumen: At least two years of experience contributing to financial decisions within an organization, with a clear understanding of how data science impacts the bottom line.
• Leadership Experience: At least two years of direct management, indirect management, and/or cross-functional team leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to mentor and inspire.
• Willingness to Travel: Ability to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes, both domestically and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral Degree: Ph.D. in a STEM field such as computer science, statistics, physics, mathematics, information systems, data science, or machine learning is highly desirable.
• Emerging Technology Experience: Hands-on experience with Internet of Things (IoT) platforms and Edge AI solutions is a strong plus.
• Reinforcement Learning: Practical experience applying reinforcement learning techniques to real-world problems is highly valued.
