[Remote] Product Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Recruiting from Scratch is representing an early-stage healthcare technology startup focused on rebuilding health insurance infrastructure. The Product Engineer will build and scale backend systems and data pipelines to support healthcare claims and operational workflows while collaborating with various teams to translate complex workflows into robust technical systems.
Responsibilities
- Build and scale backend systems and data pipelines that support healthcare claims, payments, and operational workflows
- Design automation systems for provider notifications, support workflows, and internal operational tooling
- Develop scalable APIs and infrastructure that improve reliability and operational efficiency across healthcare systems
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, and business teams to translate complex workflows into robust technical systems
- Rapidly prototype solutions and evolve them into maintainable, production-grade systems
- Help define the long-term architecture and evolution of the company’s data platform
- Work directly on systems that impact providers, patients, and internal operational teams in real-world healthcare environments
- Contribute to technical design discussions, backend architecture decisions, and engineering best practices
Skills
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience (4+ years for exceptional candidates)
- Strong Python backend engineering experience with production systems ownership
- Experience designing and maintaining ETL workflows, data pipelines, or scalable backend systems
- Strong systems thinking and ability to work through ambiguity in complex domains
- Clear communicator capable of explaining technical tradeoffs and business impact
- Comfortable working closely with operational and non-technical stakeholders
- Interest in healthcare and willingness to navigate regulated, operationally complex environments
- Startup experience, particularly within early-stage or high-growth environments
- Experience with Flask, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and PostgreSQL
- Exposure to healthcare systems, claims infrastructure, EHR integrations, or healthcare vendor tooling
- Experience working with large, messy, or operationally sensitive datasets
- Familiarity with AI-assisted workflows or intelligent automation systems
