Andiamo is hiring for a Senior Backend Engineer at a rapidly growing fintech organization that is transforming financial infrastructure in the higher education ecosystem. The role involves architecting and scaling systems for financial transactions, focusing on building robust backend solutions and collaborating with various teams to address business challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable backend systems that support high-volume financial operations
  • Build resilient APIs, services, and workflows that power critical payment and settlement activities
  • Develop robust data models, processing pipelines, and service architectures capable of supporting future growth
  • Drive technical design decisions that balance performance, maintainability, security, and business objectives
  • Continuously improve platform reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency
  • Own production systems from design through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization
  • Develop automation, deployment pipelines, and engineering workflows that accelerate delivery while maintaining quality
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability solutions that provide actionable operational visibility
  • Strengthen disaster recovery, resilience, and incident response capabilities
  • Identify and eliminate operational bottlenecks through automation and system improvements
  • Partner with product, operations, and leadership teams to translate business challenges into elegant technical solutions
  • Contribute to product strategy discussions and help prioritize initiatives based on customer impact and business value
  • Participate in customer conversations when needed to better understand user needs and operational challenges
  • Help shape new platform capabilities, integrations, and financial products
  • Champion software craftsmanship, code quality, testing, and engineering best practices
  • Lead by example through thoughtful architecture, clean code, and strong ownership
  • Mentor teammates and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence
  • Promote pragmatic decision-making and iterative product development

Skills

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant backend development experience
  • Demonstrated success designing, building, and scaling production-grade backend systems
  • Strong expertise with Node.js and modern TypeScript or JavaScript development
  • Experience developing APIs, distributed services, data processing systems, and production applications
  • Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL and Redis in high-performance environments
  • Experience owning software throughout its lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and optimization
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong prioritization, project ownership, and execution capabilities
  • Experience building cloud-native systems using AWS or similar cloud platforms
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and DevOps practices
  • Experience working in fintech, banking, payments, financial services, or other regulated industries
  • Understanding of payment processing, money movement, identity verification, authentication, or financial infrastructure
  • Experience building products from inception through commercial scale
  • Previous experience working within startup or high-growth environments
