Assistant Curator

Essential Functions Researches artists and artworks for two or more contemporary art exhibitions per academic year. Under the supervision of the Curator, creates exhibition proposals, budgets and production timelines for exhibitions. Coordinates communication with participating artists. Writes wall text and other written collateral for website, PR and Marketing and social media for exhibitions. In collaboration with the Assistant Curator of Education and Outreach, creates programming for exhibitions including community programs, K-12 educational activities and lectures, workshops and other learning opportunities for UTEP students. Whenever possible creates educational teams that combine community-based artists with UTEP students to maximize relationship-building and professional development opportunities. In collaboration with Exhibitions Coordinator, prepares, hangs, and installs objects for exhibit. In collaboration with Graphic Production Manager, strategizes for the PR, Marketing, Social Media, and Graphic Design identity of exhibitions. Install, arrange, assemble, and prepare items for exhibition, ensuring museum standards in the handling and display of objects, reporting their status and condition, and identifying and correcting any problems. Direct and supervise student staff and interns in the handling, mounting, care, and storage of art objects. Requires ability to physically handle delicate and valuable objects with extreme care; work from sketches and oral instructions as to construction and installation of museum exhibit. Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems. Complies with all State and University policies. Other duties may be assigned. Apply Job!
