About the position The Manager I, Contract Logistics (CLS) position at APL Logistics is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the Freight Management Operations Team. This role requires strong day-to-day client interaction and decision-making capabilities, ensuring that operations are not only trained and prepared but also conform to established procedures. The manager will focus on improving productivity and implementing creative, value-adding enhancements to operations. A key aspect of this position is to determine the least cost methodology for transporting customer shipments while identifying optimization opportunities and cost reduction strategies. In this role, the manager will be tasked with several responsibilities, including financial management to meet or exceed revenue and contribution targets by effectively managing costs. Building strong, interactive relationships with key clients is essential for ensuring customer satisfaction. The manager will also play a crucial role in employee satisfaction by delivering training and communicating results effectively. Establishing productivity metrics and leading the use of quality tools to improve processes is another critical responsibility. Additionally, the manager will support project implementations and assist in managing change within the organization. Leadership is a core component of this role, as the manager will provide vision, energize, encourage, and coach team members. Team building is also emphasized, with a commitment to shared accountability for team decisions. Furthermore, the manager must ensure compliance with CBP regulations across operations, particularly in relation to Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ). This position is integral to the success of the logistics operations and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement. Responsibilities • Meet/exceed revenue and contribution by managing costs. , • Build strong, interactive relationships with key clients to ensure customer satisfaction. , • Deliver training and communicate results to enhance employee satisfaction. , • Establish productivity metrics and lead the use of quality tools to improve processes. , • Support project implementations and assist in managing change. , • Provide vision, energize, encourage, and coach team members. , • Commit to and share accountability for team decisions. , • Ensure adherence to CBP regulations across operations, particularly in relation to FTZ. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Logistics or Business or an equivalent combination of education and experience. , • Minimum 5+ years of logistics experience with operational management in truck and multi-modal shipments. , • Demonstrated understanding of supply chain process components. , • Advanced analytical PC skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, Internet, and email. , • Ability to translate supply chain data for improvements. , • Understanding of inventory management, distribution, transportation, and overall supply chain management. , • Experience in identifying and meeting valid external customer requirements. , • Skilled in communication, delivering presentations, and articulating supply-chain concepts. Nice-to-haves • Working knowledge of APL Logistics TMS applications. , • Understanding of FTZ regulations and procedures.
