Tooling Specialist

Description • Manages the tool-built process. Leads suppliers' project team to create transparency and overall tool status for BMW. Acts as a representative for BMW central tooling management department and utilizes the supplier and BMW network to resolve problems. • Provides critical tools status as requested based on project status. • Collaborates with cross-functional teams (Launch Teams, Process Chain) at the supplier and provides transparency for the project launch milestones. • Tracks tooling timing schedule and tooling built/repair process at the tool maker (with Tier 1). • Follows up on tooling timing schedule with regular visits at the tool maker to ensure tooling availability to agreed date/built phase. • Maintains regular records of current tooling status, initiates escalation in case of any deviations without action plan. • Creates transparency about tools during development, built and series phase through extensive project work, process consulting and various supplier support activities. • Manages support activities that are focused on quality, delivery of parts out of required tool and supplier development of tool makers. • Identifies problems during the tool-built lead to a reliable forecast concerning the availability of parts for the various project milestones and built phases. • Collaborates with parts purchasing and parts quality department at the supplier and tool maker for critical purchased components. • Ensures tooling function capability. • Conducts tool maker evaluation. • Performs other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications • BA/BS degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred); OR AA/AS degree in a technical field AND 2 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: Tool Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Process Planning, Maintenance Management; OR The equivalent of 4 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: Tool Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Process Planning, Maintenance Management. • 5+ years professional experience in exterior/interior components surface development. • 5+ years of experience with tooling development and implementation with CATIA or other equivalent CA design software. • 5+ years of experience leading projects. • 5+ years of experience managing suppliers. • 5+ years ability to lead projects, train others and implement workshops related to the field of responsibility. • 5+ years of MS Office skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Access). • 3+ years of planning/organizational skills. • 3+ years German language skills (preferred). • 3+ years knowledge of specific functional area (preferred). • 3+ years of interpersonal/communication skills (written, verbal, presentation). • 1+ years knowledge of overall department and company mission (preferred).
