We are passionate about equity for students and employees, support innovative learning, offer great , and professional growth opportunities The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Special Education Teacher Deaf & Hard of Hearing (DHH) with East County SELPA of the Student Services and Programs Division. This position will plan and implement quality learning experiences, prepare daily plans to provide itinerant services for students. Teachers are responsible for providing direct instruction based on the student's Individual Education Program (IEP). Teachers implement the IEP and integrate IEP goals into their lessons; evaluate and report progress on IEP goals, and conduct evaluations for determine eligibility. This position will work with a variety of students, toddlers through young adults, who are deaf or hard of hearing, who may or may not have other disabilities. Although there may be some students who access language through American Sign Language, the majority of the students served in this program access spoken language and have personal amplification devices. This position is full-time and will offer the certificated benefits package, which includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage, and will participate in the CalSTRS state retirement system. Requirements / Qualifications This position requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in deaf education or graduate studies in deaf education or related field, and experience in serving students who are deaf or hard of hearing with a variety of learning differences. Certificates, Licenses, Credentials: Valid Education Specialist teaching credential* with an authorization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH); or equivalent document issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) Valid English Learner authorization (CLAD or equivalent document) * We are also accepting applications for those candidates who are eligible to receive an internship credential as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. To be considered for this option, please obtain and attach an Eligibility for Intern Credential letter (addressed to The San Diego County Office of Education) as issued by your university. If you have already been issued an intern credential by the CTC, please attach that document to your application. To be considered for this position, you must individually attach the following items to your completed EDJOIN Application: Resume, detailing education and experience Letter of Introduction Two (2) current Letters of Recommendation (dated within the last year preferably from current/former supervisors) Copy of degree or transcripts confirming bachelor's degree in deaf education or graduate studies in deaf education, or related field Copy of valid Education Specialist teaching credential with an authorization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH); or equivalent document issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) Proof of CLAD Certification/English Learner Authorization if not embedded in your credential Eligibility for Intern Credential letter as issued by your university if applicable Comments and Other Information A stipend of $4,500, paid out after three (3) years of consecutive full-time service, shall be paid to unit members hired on or after July 1, 2018, who hold state certification and are employed as Speech Language Pathologists, Audiologists, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or Visually-Impaired. The stipend will be paid out at the completion of the third instructional year. This position is also identified as hard-to-staff credentialed area for 2022-23 and 2023-24 per Article XV.2.C.5.B of the SDCAE collective bargaining agreement. *Note: Valid California credentials are a requirement at the time of hire. If you do not possess the required California credentials, you may go to the California Commission of Teacher Credentialing website for details on meeting California's requirements. Employment with SDCOE is contingent upon the successful completion of a post-offer background check and physical exam, which includes a drug screening. All required California Credentials (if applicable, as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing) must be confirmed prior to employment with SDCOE.
