Contract User Interface Designer

UX team is looking for an intern to join us as we continuously elevate our customers’ experiences. The internship will focus on exposing you to UX in the workplace and giving you a sense of how work goes from concept to live on the website.

• I want to learn about how an in-house UX team maintains and evolves a company website.
• I want to use and refine a design system.
• I want to grow my presentation, critique, and interaction design skills.
• I want to grow my skills in Figmaand digital whiteboarding tools.
• I am comfortable working remotely with my team and prefer having my camera on during remote meetings.
• I prefer working later in the day so I can overlap time with an Austin-based team.
• I can come to NI’s campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
• I am comfortable using a Windows-based laptop to do my design work.
• I have a portfolio of UX work I can present.

What this internship isn’t:

• User Research focused
• Graphic Design focused
• Observation only

• We aim to ensure consistency, improve user engagement, and align the website’s design with our company’s brand identity.
• We use Figma, Lucid, Azure DevOps, Teams, and Outlook daily.

What you’ll learn and do

• Maintain the company website
  • Learn how a website CMS functions and UX’s role in it
  • Shadow, co-create, and co-present webpage updates
  • Follow the project to go-live to see UX’s role in each step
• Use and Refine a design system
  • Learn about a Design System and how it’s used across a company’s IT teams
  • Use the Design System to create webpage concepts
  • Define, refine, and document Figma Components to grow the Design System
• Concept Iterative Improvements
  • Work with the UX Researcher to find a potential opportunity
  • Learn to independently iterate concepts and present them to the UX team for design critiques
  • Present work to stakeholders

Not required but great if you are interested in or have experience with

• Experience reviewing analytics
• Familiar with concepts like database, CMS, HTML/CSS, usability testing
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
