Knot’s mission is to empower consumers and businesses alike with connected merchant and banking experiences. Knot is like “Plaid for merchant connectivity.” We are building the platform connecting merchants to the many applications that consumers and businesses interact with everyday. Our flagship CardSwitcher product allows consumers to instantly update & manage their cards on file with online merchant accounts (e.g. Netflix or PayPal), while newer products like TransactionLink support the retrieval of item-level transaction data. We are building many new products on top of our novel merchant connectivity platform and we hope you choose to come build them with us!

Founded in 2021, Knot was founded by two brothers and Thiel Fellows - Rory and Kieran O’Reilly - and today powers connected online payment experiences for hundreds of thousands of consumers. Companies like American Express, PayPal, Current, BILT, Step, and more choose to embed Knot’s SDK in their apps to power best-in-class experiences for their customers.

What you’ll do

• Lead and inspire a diverse, high-performing engineering team to deliver world-class products and solutions.

• Collaborate with the CTO to shape and refine the overall engineering strategy.

• Drive the technical vision, strategy, and execution for Knot’s product roadmap, ensuring alignment with business goals.

• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, emphasizing quality, performance, and reliability in all aspects of engineering.

• Mentor and grow engineering talent, providing guidance, feedback, and career development opportunities.

• Oversee the recruitment and retention of top engineering talent, ensuring Knot attracts and retains the best minds in the industry.

• Manage and optimize the engineering budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to maximize impact.

• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, leveraging them to drive innovation and competitive advantage.

What you’ll need to get the job done

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of leading and scaling engineering teams in high-growth environments.

• Strong technical background with expertise in modern software development practices, architecture, and infrastructure.

• Experience building and scaling complex, high-availability systems and services.

• Demonstrated ability to drive technical strategy and make data-driven decisions that balance short-term needs with long-term goals.

• Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.

• Proven ability to attract, hire, and retain top engineering talent.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate and resolve complex technical challenges.

• Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in the financial services industry is a plus.

• High adaptability and comfort with the fast-paced, dynamic nature of a startup environment.

• Experience with fintech or payments systems is a plus.
